Costume

The genre of Rap has recognisable conventions when analysing costume. The photo’s to the left shows rapper 2 Chainz in his music video ‘Im Different’, wearing a substantial amount of jewellery to display his wealth, instantly whilst watching the music video I began to notice that the majority of shots included some sort of jewellery. We as the audience begin to identify rap videos as artists flaunting jewellery and designer clothing.

The band Onerepublic displayed in the pictures are of a Pop rock genre, totally contrasting with the conventions of Rap in terms of costume. Every member of the band is dressed extremely causal, also the actors involved in the music video can be seen particularly casual , causing the audience to believe their focus is directed towards the music and it is more important than clothing.

Location & Setting

Audiences can identify a particular genre based on the location of the music video and the setting. For instance, immediately in this music video a shot of girls dancing in a room of a house would most likely be recognised as Rap. Moreover we see a group of rappers sitting at a dark club bar drinking alcohol, which is common of rappers. I have realised representing a particular genre takes a lot of detail I choosing the right

locations, as bars and house parties are what the audience of Rap are familiar with.

Meek mill – House Party

Pop Rock bands tend to shoot there performance shots on any type of stage, whether it be outside or inside. In the music video I have chosen a band performs in a misty warehouse to a crowd.
