ORIGINALITY AND CREATIVITY

O While writing for a show there should be some orginality which only belongs to your show and is not copied yet before. The script writer should be creative enough to get new ideas not used before just for the uniquiness of that program making that show different from others. If you have creativity and originality for long the show is liked by most of the people for a long time.

O Example – The Kapil Sharma Show

Page 24: anchoring skills for television

IDEA GENERATION O Writers, working with source material is one way of

finding new ideas. For others, their imagination is enough. But what do you do with those ideas, those inklings, and those notions that are just the tip of the iceberg? How do you start to dig deeper in order to create characters an audience can identify with and a story they can lose themselves in? Learning how to spot potential stories, knowing how to use those stories as a springboard for a bigger, more dramatic story, and then learning how to take dramatic license to develop those ideas into cohesive films for television and motion pictures is a practice.

SKILL FOR INTERVIEWING O Important tips to make your interview “professional:” O Memorize your introductions, questions, and

conclusions. O Learn to use a microphone correctly. Hold the

microphone about six inches below your chin. Use the arm that is next to the guest to hold the microphone so that you do not reach across your body when you move the microphone.

O Remain calm during the interview. O Share the questions with your guest so they can be

prepared too! This can be done just prior to the on-camera interview, or even a day before if there is adequate time.

ANCHORING FOR DOCUMENTRY STYLE

O THE IDEA: The story idea came from the fact that my sister was insisting that I get this new vaccine that she had heard about because it is supposed to prevent cervical cancer. I told her no one should take a shot just like that without any research and a simple Google search threw up the controversy surrounding the vaccine — that was the starting point.

O THE WORK: In terms of production there was a lot to do, but in terms of research you handle it on your own.

O THE SHOOT: Two days of shoot in Khammam and Warangal; a few interviews in Delhi (approx. 2 weeks).

O THE RESPONSE: At work, everyone liked it a lot and there was lots of viewer feedback on IBNlive too. :) Also, some people who saw and liked the show found me on Facebook and made appreciative comments.

O THE FUTURE: I will be doing more of these documentaries but only when I can be spared from my regular work. I have to do them simultaneously with taking care of Living It Up and ynot... so let's see when I can do this next.
