BOYLE’S LAW

Page 6: Application of Boyle's Law, Charles's law and Avogadro law

• In 1662, Robert Boyle discovered this law

Robert Boyle

Law: When Temperature remaining constant, volume of a fixed amount of gas is inversely proportional to the pressure of the gas.

Pressure and Volume are Inversely Proportional

V ∞ V = PV = K

Here,

V = Volume P = Pressure K = Proportionality Constant

CHARLES’S LAW

Jacques Charles

In 1802, Jacques Charles discovered this law

Law: When pressure remaining constant, volume of a fixed amount at gas is directly proportional to the absolute temperature of the gas.

Pressure and amountOf gas are constant

Charles’s LawVolume and Temperature are Directly Proportional

V ∞ TV = kT = k

Here, V = volume T = temperature in kelvin k = proportionality constant

AVOGADRO LAW

Page 13: Application of Boyle's Law, Charles's law and Avogadro law

 Amedeo Avogadro

In 1811, Amedeo Avogadro discovered this law

Law: When temperature and pressure remaining constant, volume of a fixed amount at gas is directly proportional to the number of the molecules present in the gas.

Temperature and pressureAre constant

Page 14: Application of Boyle's Law, Charles's law and Avogadro law

Avogadro LawVolume and number are directly proportional

v ∞ nv = kn = k

Here, v = volume n = number k = proportionality constant

Page 15: Application of Boyle's Law, Charles's law and Avogadro law

For comparing the same substance under two different sets of conditions, the law can be usefullyexpressed as follows:

=

𝑉 1

n1=𝑘

𝑉 2

n2=𝑘
