  2. 2. Materials White Paper Black Construction Paper Oil Pastels Permanent Marker Glue Mirror Pencil, Eraser and Sharpener
  3. 3. Step 1: Face Drawing Using a mirror and pencil to sketch out a profile view from the side and from the front. Divide each view in half and connect in the middle.
  4. 4. Face Drawing Continued Use a black permanent marker to trace pencil lines. Erase any pencil lines that can still be seen.
  5. 5. Step 2: Coloring Oil pastels will be used to color each section of portrait. Two analogous colors will be used in each section. Always use different combinations for same facial features.
  6. 6. Coloring Continued Start with lips and eyebrows.
  7. 7. Coloring Continued Next color eyes and ear. Black may be used by itself to color in pupil and white of eyes may be left plain or colored with a white oil pastel.
  8. 8. Coloring Continued Choose a section near the center of hair to split in half with a marker. Use two different color combinations for each side. Brown, white or black may be used with any other color.
  9. 9. Coloring Continued Choose one color to outline each section of the front view around sides and facial features.
  10. 10. Coloring Continued Choose a second analogous color to fill in remaining white area of face.
  11. 11. Coloring Continued Repeat process with side view of face. Finish coloring neck and shoulder.
  12. 12. Step 3: Tracing Use a black oil pastel to trace over black permanent marker.
  13. 13. Step 4: Cut and Mount With a pair of scissors carefully cut out portrait. Stay on edge of black oil pastel so that there is still an outline. Glue on a black piece of construction paper and then on a color piece to frame.
