Blogs, Wikis and Websites
BLOGS
PLUS MINUS IMPLICATIONS
• I really enjoy the blogging process, it is very flexible
• Ability to upload, link and share all sorts of media and information
• Acts as a diary, thoughts come more easily than if pressured in a classroom environment
• Easy controls and organized well, excellent for beginners to interact and contribute with others and resources
• Must be careful with privacy settings
• Parent can be engaged in their child’s learning
• Could be used as an online journal that teachers can scaffold and check progress/thought processes
• Art students can upload videos of their artworks different stages and comment on their decisions and actions (higher order thinking)
• Teachers, students and parents can comment on work
BLOGS
http://idunkocqu.blogspot.com.au/
WIKISA collaborative online space where a number of people can edit and contribute to one or more pages.
PLUS MINUS IMPLICATIONS
• Easy to navigate, adjust to and customize
• Allows anyone to contribute to the site from anywhere
• Easy to scaffold and update information to organize and direct
• Plethora of media can be embedded and uploaded
• Ability to share ideas and interact
• Free website• Can be put on private or
public view settings
• Only one student at a time can edit as you will lose your information
• Others can accidently delete work already on the site
• When participating in the mobile phone wiki activity I found the website didn’t save the changes to my font colour and positioning of text, would revert back to initial settings
• Parents/guardians can view site, help student and keep an eye on their work and privacy settings
• Another venue for Parent/teacher communication
• Enhance collaboration skills
• Good for group assessment, linking resources and information found by students
WIKIS

WIXIs a static website that can only be changed or updated by the person who created it.
PLUS MINUS IMPLICATIONS
• Variety of media can be uploaded
• Can provide a wealth of resources in one place other than the ones used in the classroom, encouraging students to find own knowledge.
• Parents can view from home
• Is only for reading, no comments or collaboration
• In a classroom situation, static websites can be used to advertise lessons, art competitions outside of the school and art gallery shows that students can attend.
• Provides parents with easy access to important information
• Can display students artwork and progress for parents
WIX

In Wix I changed the background, created a new page but found it difficult to insert an image as it only allowed clip art images or pictures that the program provided. There could be a way to insert your own images but was not evident or easy to find for a beginner.
FLICKERA website /blog where one can upload images or videos for people to look at and comment on.
PLUS MINUS IMPLICATIONS
• Good entry level or beginner website to use for less tech savvy students and introduce them to this type of technology
• Ability to share photos and videos with class loaded from home
• Clear, easy privacy settings
• Easy to navigate • Easy to customize • Peers can comment
making the student evaluate and better their work
• Only allows images and videos
• Doesn’t facilitate as much collaboration amongst students and teacher as other sites
• This website could be effective in an art classroom to document a students portfolio which could be shared or presented as a final oral presentation.
