IDEA 1: "MONSTER"Song: "Monster" - The Automatichttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5x29ug8gV5MGenre: Post-punk revival, alternative rockStyle of Artist• Band members would be wearing casual but

trendy clothing – dark jeans, tops (similar to Bastille)

• Lead singer does slight dance moves to song during performance

IDEA 1: "MONSTER"Features in the video • The video will reflect the lyrics of the song by a theme on drugs• The video will have performance & narrative• The performance would have the artist (a band) performing the song with

instruments (similar to Joy Division's "Love Will Tear Us Apart") in an isolating location (possibly a shed or the school stage).

• The narrative would an old teenager/young man in a house who has managed to gain his hands on some drugs.

• He takes them & he then experiences dizziness & some hallucinations. These may include things that scare people (eg a clown, a grim reaper)

• At the end of the narrative, they recover from the drugs & then throw them away.

a medium shot following suit of the band member playing the instrument, then second instrument so on – introduces the band members

• Performance: Medium close-up of singer when he first sings the lyrics• Narrative: Shaky camera shots to further reflect the characters being highEditing• Performance & Narrative: Cross cutting – video will change between the narrative &

performance• Performance & Narrative: Editing pace matches the pace of the song – song is fast = fast

Meeting conventions of genre• Shows what the target audience (15–25-year-olds) might have experienced or may do in future – kind

of acts like a warning against drugs.• The genre of the song is alternative rock – for rock bands, the target audience expect the band to see

them perform the song.

sleeves to connote that he is both smart but shaggy at the same time.

IDEA 1: "THE A TEAM"Features in the video • The video will be a narrative with a performance inside the narrative.• The video will feature the artist suffering from depression.• Throughout the video, we see indications that the artist had experienced

events that made him depressed.• The artist will visit a graveyard. Here, he stares at a grave - indicates that someone very

close to him has died.• He looks at a picture of his ex-girlfriend/boyfriend. A flashback occurs showing the break-

up.• He looks at a form that shows that he had recently been fired from his job.• A flashback occurs to show that he has been physically assaulted by a group (possibly 3).

• Throughout the video there will be scenes of the artist playing the guitar.• As the song starts to draw to a close, there is a final scene of him playing

the guitar. He then stops, & it's revealed that he is about to commit suicide by jumping off a multi-storey carpark, & the guitar playing was a final play before death.

• He is hesitant to do so. In the end, he chose not to.

Meeting conventions of genre• The message of the video is to not take your own life because of hardships & raise awareness of

people suffering depression.• The artist & video would relate to the target audience (people from 15-30) because people from this

age group may have experienced the events that happened in the video.• The shirt with rolled up sleeves may relate to the target audience because people of this age group

are usually not the type who would not like to dress very smartly.

sleeved top throughout the video.

IDEA 3: "THINGS WE LOST IN THE FIRE"Features in the video • The video is entirely narrative.• The video features 2 best friends (one of them being the artist). This is shown

through various scenes that show they are very close (eg handshake, buying drinks, arms around each other shoulders)

• However, they start to have a massive fallout. The reason is not clearly shown.

• The artist's friend throws his pictures of the 2 of them in a bin, the artist burns his pictures with a small fire.

• While walking in an alley or park, they come across each other. They are shown shouting insults at each & they eventually fight each other. The fight ends with the both of the former friends walking away from each other. 

• They then show signs that they miss each other. Therefore, the artist texts his friend by saying "call it truce?"

• They then meet each other & do a handshake, which signifies an end of their fallout.
