What is Universal Design?

Universal Design utilizes three different principles in order to achieve success from students.

1. Represent information in multiple different ways.2. Allow for multiple means of action and expression.3. Provide multiple means of engagement.

1. Represent Information in Multiple Ways.

-All students learn in different ways. That is why it is vital that they have multiple outlets through which to learn. Utilizing symbolic methods as well as manipulators can be very helpful.

2. Allow for multiple means of action and expression.

-Students have varying degrees of talent in certain subject areas. By allowing them options to complete assignments, they can utilize those talents while honing those skills that aren’t their strong suits.

3. Provide Multiple Means of Engagement!-Students need to be motivated, and given the chance to assist in their own learning.
