Introduction

• UiTM is the only university in Malaysia that has two intakes in a year that are different with other universities.

• Since UiTM wants to increase the intake of students, they need to do something to overcome the lack of classes to the students especially during the early of the semester.

Page 3: Bel 422

Continue of Introduction..

• Some of the students think that the lack of classes is one of the main problems in UiTM.

• The problem of lack of classes happened due to the changes of intake for degree students last year.

• Therefore, this research is important so that the students and lectures can have a smooth learning session in future

Methodology

1. Questionnaire We had designed six close ended questions

and one open-ended question. These questionnaires had been distributed to 40 students from faculty of business administration.

2. Interview We used a semi structured interview. The

questions are prepared before the interview and another questions are created during the interview.

Research Objectives

RO1: To identify the effect to the students and lecturers when

there are insufficient number of classes.

RO3: To determine the solutions on the problems toward the lack of classes due to the changes of semester between degree and

diploma students in UiTM.

RO2: To find out the perception of students and lecturers about the changes of semester between degree and diploma students in

UiTM.

Conclusion• The result indicates that the students face

various experiences due to this problem. However, the most frequent experience face by the students in UiTM is finding another class.

• The table shows that there are the same percentages in the degree of comfort in the class for the students. From the data, it demonstrates that half of the students feel comfortable with their environment in class while another half of the students feel uncomfortable.

Page 10: Bel 422

Recommendation • Students can find another empty class

and replace it on Thursday• Lecturers also can do the virtual classes

once a week • We can go to HEA to ask whether we can

change our class with a proper one.• If our class has many students, the

lecturer can replace the class at night so that the larger class can be used

• Interviewee 1• “…For me, the classes are enough,

but we need to see the student attitude, most of the student doesn’t like classes at 8 a.m and the students like their classes on Monday, Thursday, for Wednesday and Thursday there will be no classes at all.”

Page 14: Bel 422

Figure 2: Perception about how serious this problem to the students

Page 15: Bel 422

• Interviewee 2• “…But, personally this is not a problem

because when we work in an organization, we need to understand and tolerate with many people for example with management team”

• “ We should accept this transition process and try to adapt it. In my opinion the purpose of this transition process is because to standardized the timing between the local universities with the international universities…”

Page 16: Bel 422

Conclusion • Based on the finding, it can be

concluded that there are only slight differences between the numbers of students who vote for the classes whether it is enough or not.

• According to the data, we can conclude that the majority of the students describe that this problem is not too serious and minority said that it is not a big deal.

Page 17: Bel 422

Recommendation • If we have a larger class with a few number

of students and we do not require the facilities like LCD or laboratory provided, we can exchange the class with the other classes which need those facilities.

• The students need to change their way of thinking and be more positive

• Students must adapt with this changes as it will back to normal after the final examination

• Interviewee 1• “…UiTM need to encourage the student to

do intersession, the more students register in the intersession, the better this problem can be solved.”

 • Interviewee 2• “The most important things are, we need to

tolerate with each other. Let say, if the other classes need to use the TEC class for the whole semester, why not we give priority to them and we find the other way for example go to the library and we can use the room at library as our presentation class.”

Page 24: Bel 422

Conclusion • It can be concluded that, most of the students

rank to reduce number of intake as the first way to overcome this issue and the worse way to overcome is collect fund to support UiTM to build new building.

• From this research also shown that, the most of the students agree with the changes of student intake between diploma and degree students because the university will not be too crowded with the student. However, there are some students that disagree with the changes as it will bring difficulties to the students and lecturers.

Page 25: Bel 422

Both of the students and lecturers to understand the situations and give the best cooperation in order to make the government’s effort standardizing the beginning of semester between university in Malaysia and overseas will become a really.

The students and lecturers must stop being selfish and try to make sacrifices in term of time and energy.

Reduce the number of student during each intake and especially for the UiTM branch of Dungun.
