Roofs are leaky. Old GI plumbing is rusted and need replacement. Toilets are very unhygienic due to frequent breakdowns and leaks in sewage lines. Therefore a total overhaul is essential.   56. 56. o The monthly cost of electricity often exceeded Rs. 15 million in the past. o In 2013 new measures were introduced to cut down the cost of energy, without disturbing the progress of the university. o Street illumination was reduced by one (01) hour and strictly monitored. o Cooking and other unwarranted usages in hostels were banned. o Incandescent bulbs were gradually replaced by CFL bulbs. o Tariff changed from domestic to educational . This could have been changed long time back. o Re-wiring of 70 year old electrical system is underway. It will be completed in mid 2016. Phase II Project TU actions 57

  75. 75. 2nd lovers lane: For the benefit of the students, an additional foot path will be established on the left bank of Mahaweli river at the edge of Ediriweera Saracchchandra Terrace. This lane will be dedicated for the students who would spend their evenings with friends at leisure, enjoy and relax.
