Take all necessary measures to avoid contamination of microbial
growth media, tubes or plates.
Identify the containers of the inoculated media
Place the media for incubation in identifies receptacles.
In presentation of results; + sing represents growth and – sign
represents no growth.
All results must be followed by well articulated reports.
Things you should know while carrying out microbiology practical
Microscope
Eyepiece: The lens the viewer looks through to see the specimen.
The eyepiece usually contains a 10X or 15X power lens.
Head: The body tube connects the eyepiece to the objective lenses.
Arm: The arm connects the body tube to the base of the
microscope.
Revolving noisepiece (Revolver): Use to change the magnifying
lenses.
Objective Lens: Lens closest to the object and it has magnifying
lenses, usually 4x, 10x, 40x and 100x.
Function of a Microscope
Specimen or slide: The specimen is the object being
examined. Most specimens are mounted on slides, flat
rectangles of thin glass.
Illumination: The light source for a microscope.
Condenser: Gathers the light rays from light source and
focuses them onto specimen.
Coarse and fine adjustment knobs: used to focus the
specimen.
