About The University The University personifies and manifests itself in its motto

“QUOT RAMI TOT ARBORES” (as many branches, so

many trees) which means the tree of knowledge has so

many branches or simply, Knowledge Is Limitless. The

alumni include numerous eminent scholars, scientists, men

of letters and business magnates.

The University has four campuses namely: Faculty of Arts,

Faculty of Science, Faculty of Law and Faculty of

Commerce running a number of advance courses. The

University is carrying out a number of post-graduate

teaching and/or research programs covering thrust and

emerging areas as well as interfaces of various disciplines:

these include Biotechnology, Bioinformatics, Behavioral

and Cognitive science, Atmospheric, Ocean and Space

Sciences, Bio-Medical NMR, Food Technology,

Information and Communication Technology, Intellectual

Property Rights, Nutritional Sciences, Foreign Trades and

Practices, and Nanotechnology etc. Notably the UGC has

selected the University of Allahabad under the scheme of

Identifying Universities with Potential for Excellence, for

developing an island of excellence in “Behavioral and

Cognitive Sciences” in the Department of Psychology. The

Department of Science and Technology has opened a

Nanophosphor Application Centre. With the help of

substantial funds from UGC and DBT the Center of

Bioinformatics is running a Doctoral program in addition to

imparting Postgraduate Program in Bioinformatics since

2002.With financial support from DBT under its BTISnet

scheme, Center of Bioinformatics has now established a

Bioinformatics Infrastructure Facility.

About the Center The Center of Bioinformatics was established in 2002 under

the Institute of Interdisciplinary Studies (IIDS) now runs all

the academic programs namely undergraduate (3 year

Applied Sciences), postgraduate (4 semester M.Sc.

Bioinformatics) and the research programs. The center aims

to train students from Mathematical/Biological streams into

trained Bioinformaticians with adequate theoretical and

practical knowledge of the field.

About the Symposium The Center of Bioinformatics is going to organize a 3-day

Symposium on “Systems Biology and Biomolecular

Interactions” for the benefit of teachers/researches/students

from January 8-10, 2012. The program consists of a good

blend of lectures, discussions and hands-on sessions,

conducted by experienced staff and the alumni of the Center

from Czech Republic ( S. K. Mishra), Italy ( A, Bhattacharya,

A. Bajpai, D. Kumar & S. Chaurasia) Japan ( V. Gupta) and

France (R. Singh). The practical training program will enrich

the knowledge and broaden the research aptitude of

participants undergoing this training course in Biomolecular

Interactions with special hands-on session on “ In silico

Protein Engineering” by Sushil K. Mishra.

Advance Lectures will be delivered by Prof. Bruno Samori,

Prof. Ashok Sharma, Prof R. S. Verma Prof. Ajit Saxena,

Prof. D. Velmurugan, and IIDS alumni Drs Sushil K.

Mishra, Shailendra Asthana, Deepak Gupta, Amiava

Bhattacharya, Archana Bajpai, Shilpi Chaurasiya, Anil

Tomar, Bipin Singh, Vipul Gupta, Rhaghavendra P.

Singh, Sudhanshu S. Srivastava, Sudeep Roy, Dhruv

Kumar and others.

Areas to be covered in symposium:

*Bioinformatics, Systems Biology and Genomics

*Biomolecular Interactions and their Modeling

Eligibility Faculty from Universities and constituent/ affiliated

colleges, Scientists, Scholars from R & D institutes,

professionals from Industries and biotech companies &

Postgraduate students holding Graduate/ Master’s

Doctorate in any branch of biological sciences can apply.

Objective The main purpose of this Symposium is to update

research/ teachers so that they can use the current updates

in biomolecular modeling and interactions for their

research and teaching. The training course also aims to

provide hands-on experience by which engineered

biological systems are prepared in silico. Such

approaches are being used to understand biomolecular

interactions and assist current drug designing programs. The major emphasis of this workshop is on actual

practical training taking into consideration the facilities

available at the participant’s Institute/ University. The

workshop would provide a common platform for all the

participants to interact and exchange ideas among them

which will lay the foundation for inter-institutional

cooperative research project in future.
