Human Structure and Function
This class is hard, no getting around it
• God’s most amazing creation is AMAZING, in part because it is so complicated.
• Doing well in this class is absolutely possible, but it will require focused, consistent effort from you.
• I will do what I can to explain the concepts as clearly as possible, but to do well you need to come to class, take notes, ask questions, read the book, and study hard. There are no shortcuts, but if you take the correct path, you can succeed.
Textbook• Mader’s Understanding Human Anatomy &
Physiology, by Longenbaker, 7th ed
• I got the book down as cheap as I could!
• You’re gonna need a book
Class assignments
• Exams

Exams• There will be 4-5 regular exams and a comprehensive
final
• The exams will make up the majority of the points possible in the class
• The exams will be administered in the testing center.
• MC/T-F, FITB, Matching, Labeling, Short Answer
• Every Exam will have a comprehensive section asking questions covered in previous sections
Online quizzes• Each chapter covered will have an
associated quiz on Moodle
• The quiz must be taken BEFORE that chapter is covered in class. It can not be submitted late.
• You may use your book, but you only get one chance to take it for points
• There may be a time limit imposed, so you would be well served to have read the chapter first
Laboratory and Other Assignments• Assignments may be paper based or on Moodle
• Assignments must be turned in on time, so don’t wait until the last minute.
Attendance• It is definitely in your interest to
attend class every day, to do as well as possible.
• I’m going to take attendance.
• Assignments can not be turned in late.
• You need to make every effort to take the test on time.– Without a Harding issued excuse, a late penalty will be attached.– With a Harding issued excuse, you must make up the test the
first DAY back.– Either way, multiple late tests will be noticed.
Participation• Everyone, including me, will be better off if
you participate in class.
• I will know what you have questions about, and you won’t have to listen to 50 straight minutes of lecture every day.
• If the class is too unresponsive, I may bring out a pop quiz.
Grade Breakdown• Regular Exams 500• Final Exam 200• Quizzes 150• Laboratory/Other Assignments 150 _• Total 1000
• 90 / 80 / 70 / 60 grading scale
• Don’t count on a curve

Extra Credit Points
Video Extra Credit Details• Points credited based solely on the judgment of Dr. C– Generally 0-3 points possible for a submission– Submitting a great video before the lecture is the best
possible scenario for earning points• The video needs to explain and/or illustrate concepts covered
in the chapters/lectures• The best video is one that adds to what’s covered in class or
the book somehow, things such as– 3 dimensional illustrations, Animations– Unique ways of explaining a concept.
• Credit for a given video will only be given to the first person that submits it to me by email ([email protected])
Students with Disabilities• It is the policy for Harding University to accommodate students with
disabilities, pursuant to federal and state law. I ask that you join me in pledging to do the same.
• Academic dishonesty will result in penalties up to and including dismissal from the class with a failing grade and will be reported to the Assistant Vice President for Academic Affairs. All instances of dishonesty will be handled according to the procedures delineated in the Harding University catalog
ASSESSMENT PROCEDURES:
