• lives in northern states of Maine• They emerge from hibernation in April and
disappear to vernal pools• About 5 tutles per square mile
More Fun facts
• Mate from may to July• Lay 8 to 10 eggs
endangered because of :
-habitat loss-fragmentation from human development- Prementation of eggs and young turtles by raccoons
What we’re Doing to protect them:
• 10 families protect 16 nests on or near their property
• In fall people monitor nests fore merging hatchlings and radio track hatchlings
The blandings turtle is now somewhat safe
