Attend this web seminar to learn best practices for blended learning models, and how they can help support improved learning and personalization for each student. Tom Vander Ark, CEO of Getting Smart and author of “Getting Smart: How Digital Learning is Changing the World,” and Tim Hudson, Senior Director of Curriculum Design for DreamBox Learning, will discuss how to take advantage of emerging blended learning approaches that benefit students and teachers. Mid-Year Assessment DataWhile only mid-way through the school year, scholar growth is
already impressive:
– Math• Children increased from 3% to 51% “on track” in math1
• 56% of our scholars have grown by 1 year or more during the first half of the school year1
– Reading• Scholars have increased from 33% to 82% on track in
reading1

– State Test• 85% of our scholars are already on track to pass ISTEP, the

PLA School Model PLA was awarded 10 charters from the Indiana Charter School Board, the most in the state’s history, to launch a network of schools that will serve nearly 10,000 children. Building on over 20 years of experience in raising student achievement, the PLA school model has the following pillars:
– Exceptional teachers and school leaders – Expanded learning time
• Longer school year (225 days vs. 180)• Longer school day (8 hrs. vs. 6)
– Best-in-class academic curricula and enrichment classes– Use of technology to complement teacher instruction– Use of assessment data to ensure all children succeed– Partnership with parents

Blended Learning Model
Basic Framework for ELA and Math• 30 minutes of whole-group instruction• 90 minutes of individualized learning
– 30 minutes in online learning lab working on adaptive software
– 30 minutes guided instruction (5-6 scholars per group) led by academic teacher
– 30 minutes of intervention (11 scholars per group) mastery-based intervention
