Water SectionThere is more water than land on Earth.Oceans cover three quarters of the planet

Earth.

Page 3: DocumentBp

Water Section 2All known life depends on water.

Page 4: DocumentBp

Water Section 3Water is 1 part oxygen and 2 parts hydrogen.

Page 5: DocumentBp

Water Section 4Two thirds of the human body is made of

water.

Water CycleWater goes through many stages such as

groundwater, clouds, and precipitation which is rain, snow, sleet, and hail.

Page 7: DocumentBp

Water Cycle 2All water is recycled in the environment.Water evaporates and forms clouds and then

returns to earth as precipitation.

Page 8: DocumentBp

Water Cycle 3Less than 1 percent of the water on earth is

drinkable.

Page 9: DocumentBp

Water Cycle 4When water evaporates it changes its form

and rises into the air. When the water vapor reaches the sky it becomes clouds.

Ocean TopographyOcean topography is the study of underwater

landforms.

Page 11: DocumentBp

Ocean Topography 2An underwater valley is called a trench.

Page 12: DocumentBp

Ocean Topography 3Islands are the tops of underwater

mountains.

Page 13: DocumentBp

Ocean Topography 4The ocean floor is not flat, there are

mountains and valleys

Page 14: DocumentBp

Ocean Currents and TidesOcean currents are rivers in the ocean.Ocean currents are also not caused by a

downhill force like a river on a mountain.

Page 15: DocumentBp

Ocean Currents and Tides 2There are two kinds of tides, high tide and

low tide. At high tide the water near the shore gets deeper and at low tide it gets shallower.

Tides are caused by the gravitational pull of the moon.

Page 16: DocumentBp

Ocean Currents and Tides 3Each tide happens twice a day.People can predict the tides.

Page 17: DocumentBp

Ocean Currents and Tides 4The Gulf Stream is a famous ocean current.

How Do Humans Effect the WaterHumans effect the water by building dams.

Page 19: DocumentBp

How Do Humans Effect the Water 2Humans also effect the water by waging war

and sinking NUCLEAR vessels.

School Bus on the Ocean Floor, and The Magic School Bus at the Waterworks by: Joanna Cole and Bruce Degen.
