Intensive Vedanta Retreat Leh, Ladakh, India

25-31 May 2014

Living the Vision of Oneness

Amidst stunning landscape and breathtaking beauty of Ladakh, this retreat will give you a unique opportunity to be exposed to the profound teaching of Srimad Bhagavad Gita. You will share this retreat with a small group of individuals from all over the world who like you are interested in exposing themselves to the Vision of Oneness that can truly bring about a major shift in perspective and transform ones entire life.

The retreat will cover the following texts:

Chapter Seventeen of Bhagavad Gita The chapter 17 discusses in a profound and beautiful manner ways for individuals to initiate personal transformation by presenting a model of three guëas or qualities- namely sattva, rajas and tamas. It also makes us see nuances of 3 guëas as applicable in having çraddhä (faith), dänaà (charity), yajïa (prayers), ähära (eating habits) and tapas (religious austerities). Lord Krishna, the master teacher, shows us that merely having faith or undertaking religious disciplines is not enough, one has to assess its value according to what world vision it prescribes, what is the intention of the person who is undertaking it and what is the result it brings to individual, community and humanity in general. Lord Krishna thus makes us see beyond the usual meanings of charity, religious disciplines, etc. and reveals the real spirit that has to be cultivated to grow as a human being so that we can, endowed with this maturity, gain ultimate freedom. A Vedic Prayer: Medhā Sūktaṁ

This Vedic prayer to Saraswati, the Goddess of Knowledge, is commonly chanted by students of Vedanta since it is asking for clarity of thinking, capacity to examine realities and grace to understand the vision of Oneness unfolded by the Upanishads and the Bhagavad Gita. During this retreat, you will learn how to chant this Vedic prayer with accents and go through a brief commentary of its meaning.

These two sessions will be reinforced with morning meditations, practice of meditative movements and dialogue sessions.
