Business Development & St. Lawrence College Business Development is the workforce development arm within St. Lawrence College that provides customized professional development training to local businesses, individual community residents, and government employees. The department has complemented St. Lawrence College’s academic mission and has positioned itself as the regional leader in human capital development. Investment in life-long learning while also connecting job seekers and employers provides the local workforce with the necessary skills to foster economic development and social prosperity.

Community Youth Employability ProgramsOur Government funded programs for at risk youth focus on developing employability skills for youth with obstacles to workforceentry. We partner with Service Canada and the Provincial Government to develop training programs that provides essential skillsin areas where job demand is strong and where sector growth exists such as:

The community youth programs group also delivers similarprograms to offenders incarcerated in Ontario’s Federal

penitentiaries. Our partnership with Correctional Service Canada offers similar programs to at risk youth and seeks to support offenders’ integration back into the workforce. We are very

proud of this partnership and have developed many innovative skills based programs to assist offenders in their reintegration to

society. Over the past four years we have built four Habitat for Humanity homes and trained offenders in the community.

We deliver more programs to at risk youth through Service Canada than any other organization in Ontario.

Employment Service

Through Employment Service offices we offer skills development, career preparation and job matching services in Kingston, Ottawa,and Sharbot Lake with itinerant services in Sydenham and Verona. Through this service we offer thousands of job seekers and employers support across Eastern Ontario such as:

Career and Placement Services

Our mission is to educate, motivate and support our students and 88,000 strong alumni to develop plans and

take action to achieve current and fu-ture career goals. We accomplish this through high quality interactions, digital services and resources in part-

nership with students, faculty, alumni and employers.

These services ensure that our students have the best opportunity to find the job they want upon graduation. Through our Career Coach platform, students can access the latest information concerning college programs, graduate employ-ability, current junior salary levels, labour market information, access to our robust employer data base, sign up for interviews andconduct career related searches. Leveraging innovative technology, we offer precision matching capabilities for job seekersand employers through our job board (where there are currently over 400 jobs posted) allowing students to search, find andshare jobs and opportunities.

SLCWorks: We Pinpoint Your Start-Up NeedSLCWorks provides Entrepreneurs access to resources they need to succeed – from mentorship, government grants, workshops, labour market intelligence to regional network access.

We have worked with over 150 SMEs and entrepreneurs in 2015 supporting their growth and prosperity. Obsessed with start-ups and regional market development, our team is a key pillar in regional economic development and workforce optimization.
