Camera Shots
Tracking/Dolly Shot
Camera on wheels, follows the action.Example- The Shining.
Steadicam Shot
Hand held camera, follows the action.Can give a jerky feel to a scene which makes the audience feel they are there.
Zoom Shot
Camera zooms towards or away from an object.If done quickly, can be dramatic.If done slowly, can be a dreamy mood.Example in Jaws.
Crane Shot
Camera on a crane , looks down on the action.The shot can move dramatically from the ground to birds-eye view, or vice versa.Example- CSI Strip Strangler, looking over the house. Touch Of Evil, looking over the car.
Pan Shot
• Camera pivots to follow the action.
Trombone Shot
Tracks in, zooms out, or vice versa.Example- Jaws, man on the beach.
Sound
Diegetic Sound
The sound that comes from in the scene.E.G. Talking, noise of cars, the wind, musi from a radio ect.Example from Touch Of Evil.
Non-Diegetic Sound
The sound put on a film during post production.E.G. Music soundtrack, sound effects like crescendo.Example from Jaws.
CrescendoBuild up of sound or music to imply something is about to happen.Example from Jaws.
SforzandoA short, sharp, loud noise, often used to emphasise a shock or fear.
Motif
Plucked strings.Crescendo.Reflects the character.
