theCANI

philosophy

a continuous improvement philosophy

refers to practices that focus on continuous improvement of processes

activities that continually improve all functions in an organization and involve people

also applies to improving processes, standardizing activities

differs from “command and control” philosophy

going from where you are to where you want to be is a process

the Toyota Production System experience has always been known for CANIall line personnel are expected to stop their production line in case of any abnormality and along with their supervisor, suggest all improvement to resolve the abnormality which may initiate a CANI

purposeall about making changes and monitoring results, then adjusting.designed to address a particular issue, a limitation or inability

purpose

Growth requires change and change requires intent. The more you grow and improve, the more value you can add to others. The more value you add to others, the more value they can add to other people. In other words, CANI aims to influence and to have a multiplier impact.

what can be

done now

Identify the additional knowledge and skills you need to achieve your goals. The level of knowledge and skill you have today is rapidly becoming obsolete and has to be upgraded frequently and quickly. To accomplish more tomorrow, you have to be better than you are today.

Page 10: CANI - Constant And Never-ending Improvement

what can be

done now

Transform some of your precious time to learning time. Instead of “facebooking” most of the time, surf websites that offer self-improvement, online tutorials to improve technical skills, or look for available opportunities or conferences where we can attend. You have many to choose from and you will find that it is time well spent.

Make time to read for one hour a day. One hour of daily reading will allow you to complete an average length book in a week. Let’s say, reading 52 books a year on information science will help you to become an expert in our field.

Page 33: CANI - Constant And Never-ending Improvement

It may sound like an exhausting and never-ending struggle, continuous improvement is actually about instituting processes and work practices that will direct the evolution of your organization. But when you start with small and simple and achievable steps, you can easily master and will reinforce your desire to improve.

testimonies“One must take note, though, that not all of these are for free. One's paper may get selected but only the registration fee will be waived (Just like what happened with us in Finland; sadly, even our school did not support us but luckily, a private organization helped us with the funding.) There are others, on the other hand, where you can have all the expenses paid by the organizers. It really is always a matter of choice, perspective and resourcefulness”.

“One may submit as many abstracts as one may want. Just note that whichever abstract may be chosen, the researcher should really work hard to have a great output out of his/her chosen abstract. Call for papers does not necessarily be "papers" per se, one may just submit an abstract and hopefully, when it gets selected, then that is the time to work on the paper. Or one can do it otherwise, have the full text of the paper first, then submit an abstract. Again it really is up to one's perspective and choice”.

Page 47: CANI - Constant And Never-ending Improvement

testimonies“As a piece of advice, always believe in yourself. No matter where you are, no matter who you are with, no matter what you do, everything boils down to yourself. Be of proper composure. Never ever let yourself get intimidated. Never compare your paper with the papers of others. Just believe that there is a reason why you are trying to submit a paper and there is a reason why your paper will be/has been chosen. Be proud but at the same time, always embrace humility. Nothing boosts your confidence best than the silent cheer of people who believe in your capabilities especially if you're not bragging them”.

Page 48: CANI - Constant And Never-ending Improvement

“We have an innate desire to endlessly learn, grow and develop. We want to become more than what we already are. Once we yield to this inclination for continuous and never-ending improvement, we lead a life of endless accomplishments and satisfaction.”
