What is it?The PG Dip is a two year part-timeprogramme which carriesprofessional endorsement as a JNCqualifying award in youth work.

The MA is a three year part-timeprogramme designed forexperienced practitioners in a rangeof community-based professions inthe voluntary and statutory sectors. Fulltimeversions of the programmesmay be negotiable on request.

Who are these programmes aimed at?The Post Graduate Diploma caters primarily forgraduates who are engaged as practitioners butwho have no professional qualification in youthand community work. The MA is designed forexperienced practitioners wishing to developtheir professional and academic skills andunderstanding.

What will I get out of the PG Dip?The Post Graduate Diploma consists of twotaught modules undertaken at university.Students can expect to explore the principlesand practice of youth and community work andconsider how such services should be managed.

You will also undertake two work-based modulesthat will require you to complete two placementswithin the field of youth and community work.Placements take place in a range of settingsincluding:

• Youth centres and projects• Community work projects• Alternative education settings

• Detached youth work settings• Housing and homelessness projects• Drug agencies• Duke of Edinburgh Award projects

What will I get out of the MA?The MA involves taking three compulsorymodules on management, research andreflective practice and then selecting anadditional module. After this you will be able toundertake your dissertation.

How does the assessment work?The programme utilises a range of assessmenttools including written assignments andpresentations. We ask all students to writeregularly and engage in critical reflection abouttheir practice. Many of the assignments arebased directly upon your practice at the workplacements. There are no examinations.

Where will I study?The programme runs at Cardiff Met’s Cyncoed Campus.
