CCARDESA Mission
To promote innovative research, technology generation and adoption for sustainable agricultural development through effective partnership and capacity building
BackgroundCCARDESA is a Sub-Regional Organisation (SRO) being established by Member States in the SADC region to:
• Coordinate implementation of regional agricultural R&D programmes;
• Facilitate collaboration among NARS, Universities and CG centres;
• Promote public - private partnerships in regional agricultural R&D; and
• Improve agricultural technology generation, dissemination and adoption in the region through collective efforts, training and capacity building
CCARDESA MandateThere are three key mandate of CCARDESA:
• Establishment of enabling conditions for regional collaboration and cooperation in the technology generation, dissemination and adoption (including capacity development)
• Making sure that there is demand-driven generation of technologies, provide evidence based research for policy
• Develop and Strengthen strategic partnership.
Operational principles• Autonomy in the management of human
and financial resources
• Inclusive stakeholder (public and private sector, farmers, universities, NGOs, etc) participation in CCARDESA governance, in line with CAADP and FAAP
• Strong stakeholder participation in determining the regional R&D agenda
Relationship with SADC
• CARDESA will maintain a formal linkage with theSADC Secretariat through an MOU to facilitateguidance by SADC on regional policy and prioritiesfor R&D
• The SADC Secretariat will: provide oversight on the activities of CCARDESA, and receive regular reports from the CCARDESA
