GEOGRAPHY• The principality of Asturias is one of the seventeen autonomous communities in Spain. It has a wide variety of landscapes, which combine green and rugged mountains, white sand beaches, rocky beaches, and a vast extension of green and natural landscape.

ECONOMY • The economy of Asturias
has a declining primary sector which employs 20% of the active population with beef production, agriculture (corn, potatoes and apples) and fishing.
• The mining of coal remains significant, but it is not as important as it once was.
• The secondary sector employs 33% of the active population, and includes steel, food, shipyards, weapons, chemicals, transportation equipment , and so on.

includes 53% of the working population and is on the rise. It is responsible for the concentration of population in urban areas and the importance that tourism has acquired in the region in recent years.
