Sony History

Sony was created in 1945 in Tokyo, Japan by two men Masaru Ibuka and Aldo Morita. The first product they created was a audio tape recorder in 1958, the brand then went on to create PlayStation, Sony Ericson, Sony music brand, Sony batteries, Sony television, Sony films, Sony cameras, Sony telecommunications, Sony radio, Sony Vaio laptops, and Sony stereos.

Employment and market share

Sony has around 21.5% market share in the FTSE rankings and has a current revenue is round $86.64 billion a year and employ around 268,200 people worldwide throughout their branches and outlets.

Sony Music

Sony also owns music; they have many different genres of music under their umbrella and have signed over 500 artists. They have artists such as; - Beyoncé- JLS- Little Mix- George Michael- Chris Brown- FatBoy Slim- J-Lo- One Direction

Sony have integrated horizontally with different organizations

Intergration

Sony along side Warner and Universal are an example of a oligopoly as they are said to have control over music market by offering a wide variety of signed music artists under Sony labels.

Sony offer a streamline service as they are vertically integrated as they can provide consumers with a range of different products; Sony distribution down to the technology you use to listen to this music.

This would mean that their revenue would be very high as if a consumer are loyal to the brand they would want every product under that brand, eventually increasing positive word of mouth and repeat business.
