Limitations of Traditional learning

Traditional science learning has its limitations:

Most physical phenomenon cannot be observed by human sense organs

Difficult to imagine or comprehend complex scientific phenomenon taught in class

No outlet to human desire to learn through exploration

Science Lab operates beyond the range of human perception to capture, record and display the impact of physical phenomena

Done through carefully designed experiments that can conducted in the classroom or in the field

Page 4: Classteacher science program

Help demonstrate the impact of a scientific concept in mutiple ways:Eg: A temperature probe can be used to demonstrate rate of heating/ cooling as well as the concept of specific heat

Display results in visually understandable forms using graphs or charts

Classteacher Digital Science Lab – Key differentiators

Impact of Scientific Concepts

Visual Results

Understanding of the nature of science, the attitudes of science, and the skills of scientific reasoning

Encourage students to explore and interact directly the physical world outside their classrooms

Stimulate students to design investigations, engage in scientific reasoning, manipulate equipment, record data, analyze results, and discuss their findings

Science Lab – Package

The Package Includes:

An Interface (Set of 1 to 3)

21 sensors across Physics, Chemistry and Biology

Connecting Wires

Set of Experiments

Page 8: Classteacher science program

Experiment 1 – Motion Sensor

Outline:The experiment makes express velocity-time graph by measurement of velocity of cart using motion sensor when one gives variable force to cart

Objective:To verify velocity of object is increasing when it gets force and amount of increase is proportional to size of force

Experiment:The motion sensor records the distance and velocity versus time graph as the cart moves away from the sensor thus telling the user the laws of motion observed by the cart

Distance measurementWith time

Page 9: Classteacher science program

Experiment 2 – Temperature Sensor

Temperature Sensor

Outline:Get specific heat of metal with experimental result and thus find the type of metal using specific heat chart

Objective:Define specific heat and understand the fact that every metal has different specific heat

Experiment:Examine how temperature changes when one puts hot metal into cold water and get the specific heat of the metal. Thus using the formula we can calculate specific heat of different metals and identify them

Page 10: Classteacher science program

Experiment 3 – Temperature/Pressure Sensor

Pressure Sensor

Temperature Sensor

Outline:The experiment is for examining how temperature affects to reaction of enzyme (catalase) i.e. body’s catalyst (It replicates ‘reaction of digestive enzyme ‘ in our body)

Objective:To show the best temperature for reaction with enzyme to take place

Experiment:We put catalyst in hydrogen peroxide solution. Oxygen is generated by decomposition of hydrogen peroxide solution with catalyst reaction of enzyme. We measure pressure change with pressure sensor. We get enzyme reactivity from change rate of gas pressure

Page 11: Classteacher science program

Experiment 4 – Temperature Sensor

Temperature Sensor

Outline:To calculate heat of fusion of ice using temperature of water first, temperature at which all ice melts, mass of water and specific heat of water

Objective:To evaluate heat of fusion of ice as heat energy goes in when there is a phase change of ice to water

Experiment:Put ice and water into a simple calorimeter and measure temperature change of water when ice melts using the temperature sensor. Temperature measurement done this way is much more accurate than measurement using alcohol thermometer
