Clothing and Prop ideas for my magazine

For the process of choosing clothing and prop ideas for an R&B magazine for both males and females, I used inspiration from other R&B magazines, current R&B artists, and clothes that I would wear, as I’m interested in R&B artists, music, style, etc. Obviously, as a female it was easy to create two different outfit ideas, with makeup styles, nail designs, and other accessories, but I couldn’t look at it from a male perspective personally when creating the male outfits and accessories and props, so I asked some male friends who are interested in R&B music and style to help me with making two outfits. When adjustments were necessary, I altered some clothes to fit the R&B genre perfectly. My end result of four outfits in total, with props and accessories was successful, for confirmation, I again asked a few people for opinions and if they thought that my choice of clothing was appropriate and expected on the front and inside an R&B

magazine.

For the males outfits, I used a lot of popular brands; Adidas, Nike, North Face, ect. Both of the outfits are particularly dull and bland, but for my genre, this look’s acceptable. Both looks include a hat, a jacket, bottoms of some sort and a pair of trainers which are in fashion and are very well known. For props/accessories, I included a rucksack, a gold watch, a gold chain, gold grills and gold rings. I focused highly on gold jewellery and accessories as I think it’d put the look together and stand out against the quite dull outfit. I also included a bag full of money as it’s the sort of thing you’d expect to see on an R&B magazine nowadays. It’s mainly seen as an object to show off therefore tends to be in the hands of the artist.

For the research into female clothing and props, I made, again, two outfits up along with typical props you’d expect to see. For my first outfit, I included a Moschino two-piece skirt and crop top, with knee high Adidas socks and Adidas trainers, this outfit is primarily a white outfit, which contrasts to the all-black male outfit. The second female outfit consists of a grey Calvin Klein crop top and high-waisted ripped denim jeans. The shoes to match this outfit are a gold panel heel. Props and accessories for a R&B-styled female include, gold grills, a gold watch matching the males watch, gold chrome nails and white nails, with gold rings and a gold iPhone 6. I also included make-up looks of lipstick colours and eye looks.

Overall, in my personal opinion and other’s opinions, I think that I successfully portrayed R&B fashion. If my magazine included a style similar to these, I think it’d be easy to decipher which genre my magazine is. A front cover which portrays the genre simply, increases the purchase of my magazine from my audience.
