Finding the Right Schools
- Different types:o private vs. publico two year vs. four yearo college vs. universityo liberal arts colleges
- Major - Location- Size - Single Sex/Coed- Campus Setting- Cost- Extracurriculars
Aim to apply to around 5-8 schools with 1-2 reach, 3-4 possible, 1-3 for sures
Timeline- Start researching as soon as you can, even 9th and 10th grade is not too early!
- 11th Grade:
• Meet with your counselor!
• PSAT
• Research schools and majors
• Take the SAT/ACT and AP exams
• Visit schools in the spring and summer
• Take a summer course/internship (and study for the SAT!)
• Utilize Naviance for your college searches
• Add colleges on Naviance you are contemplating
Timeline (12th grade)
• Visit schools in the fall
• Re-take the SAT/ACT
• Finalize your list of schools by August on Naviance
• Submit the application to HR for review three weeks before the deadline
• Receive your decision in Spring

• Basic information (name, date of birth…)• 5 different schools or 1 school with 5 different programs (all of your chosen courses must be related), year of enrollment… • SAT scores, AP scores…• Predicted GPA, AP and/or Abi scores• ONE personal statement for all• One reference letter from counselor with additional comments taken from teacher recommendation letters (link application to JFKS system)• Fee

Unconditional offer (UF)
Congrats!! You have met all the academic requirements and the university has accepted you. They might need proof of your qualifications
Conditional offer (CF)
The school asks you to achieve certain scores (ex. 555 or 445 on AP exams). You must meet all conditions by 31 August and remain serious with your studies
Rejection Don’t be disappointed. Other schools might still accept you
Decisions sent to your email & UCAS account When in doubt, email the school!
Replying to offersTypes of offers
What they mean
Firm acceptance
First choice. - If it is UF, cannot accept another offer- If it is CF, committed to take that place if you meet conditions
Insurance acceptance
Second choice.
Decline When you already decide which 2 schools you definitely want to attend, you have to decline all others.
