Chemistry Presentation
ColloidsA colloid is a type of mixture intermediate
between a homogeneous mixture (also called a solution) and a heterogeneous mixture with
properties also intermediate between the two.
A colloid is a suspension of particles in a medium
The particles may be solid, liquid or gas and are called the disperse phase
The medium may also be solid liquid or gas and is called the continuous phase
What is a colloid?
The most chemically active fraction of soils. They are very small, less than 2µm in
diameter Shape Colloids can be either - mineral (clays) or organic (humus) - crystalline (definite structure) or
amorphous
