COLOUR SCHEMES

The colour scheme in this Kerrang magazine is bright and dark colours which contrast with each other, this influenced me to pick the colours I did in my own magazine because it is common to create a contrasts and it is a useful way of attracting attention.

The colour scheme in this Kerrang magazine is also bright and dark colours which contrast with each other. As this is conventional and appears in the majority of magazines I applied this to my own magazine.

The colour scheme in this Alternative Press magazine includes the common colours such as white but it also shows more nature, warm colours such as green which blends in with the yellow, this gives the magazine an interesting look rather than plain which makes it look professional, I aim to do this in my magazine.

Final Colour Scheme

I decided to use these colours for my colour scheme because they include both black which is dominant and contrasts with the brighter, more vibrant colours. From my magazine analysis I can see that many magazines of this genre use black on their pages to emphasise text and put it against the dark background, magazines such as Alternative Press and Kerrang are a good example of this. I think that the connotations of red are rebellion which is what I’m looking for, it’s also passion which reflects my target audience because they tend to be passionate about the music, I think that the yellow shows a more gentle side of the music and represents happiness. The blue pulls all of the colours together and adds more of an edge because the rest of the colours are very warm and thermal. I will also use some white aspects in my magazine because it provides clarity and will be useful in making the text stand out if I make it vibrant.

Fonts (cover)Old School (Black) I like this font because it has straight and defined edges which stand out and make the title pop out, I don’t think it would fit in well with my genre however as I need something which looks more rough and unruly. This font is clear which I don’t think represents the rock genre,Old School (White) I like this font because it’s white on the inside but black on the outside so even if I decided to use a white background it would still stand out and attract attention as I don’t want it to fade in with the page, however I don’t think it looks edgy enough, even though it looks like it would attract my target audience, it doesn’t look too immature but not sophisticated.Global Dynamics (Black) I like this font because it is bold and dark and would stand out against a any bright coloured background which gives me a wide field to experiment with. It is also more innovative rather than fully straight cut which would make the page look exciting, it is also modest which is good because I don’t want it to fully dominate the page and draw away attention from the cover lines.Grungy (Black) I like this font because it is unique, I like the composition of white and black, it’s not straight cut which has a positive of drawing attention to the magazine, however I don’t want it to dominate the entire page because I want the images to pop out too.

CF Xerography (Black) I like this font because it looks rough rather than clear cut and clear which reflects the rock genre which has connotations of rebellion, it is black with white aspects like the previous font which I like and which makes it look more experimental and exciting.

Fonts (contents page)CF Xerography (black) I like this font because it has funky letters, this font also sticks to the house style of my magazine as it it the same font as the masthead on the cover. I think this font is original rather than generic because it isn’t the typical, black fill font, it has tears which create a rough look, roughness being the connotation of rock.

Quiet the thief (Black) I like this font because of the white outline around the black writing because this lets me manipulate the background and make it darker and this wouldn’t affect the effect and it would still stand out against it, I also think it reflects the genre well and would work well on the contents page.

Curvert (Black) I like this font because it has both straight and curvy edges which make it look sophisticated yet fun. It could work in both magazines of an older target audience and a younger audience which makes it useful because it attracts both audiences.

Blackout morning (Black) I like this font because it would work well with the CF Xerography font that I am likely to use on my front cover and will remain in the house style of the magazine, I’m not sure however whether I want all of the pages to have the same fonts and look identical because this takes the excitement element away and I want to keep the audience entertained.

Fonts (double page spread)Wreckers (Black) I like this font because it’s bold and would introduce the article well, it looks powerful which should reflect the article and show that it is influential. However from my research I found out that most magazines of this genre use more simplistic forms on the double page spread and focus more on the text and background rather than the funkiness of the font.

It contrasts with the second font which is a font called ‘dragon force’ I like this font because it is fancy and has sharp edges which reflect the personalities of my target audience, I want them to get a sense of riot and freedom which I think this font represents, the rock genre should be shown with edgy and innovative text because it is a less generic genre than for example, pop and chart music. Dome circle (Black) I like this font because the

letters are spread out and make the text clear rather than being unclear and packed together which would make it hard to read for my audience, because my magazine is aimed at young adults I want the font to be more informal rather than serious, however I still want it to look professional and supreme.

Bocemina (Black) I like this font because through my magazine analysis I found that it is conventional to use simplistic fonts on the double page spread to introduce the article which usually makes up with the witty and informal language which makes it entertaining and exciting, I wouldn’t want the page to be filled with too much distraction. However I feel like the simple title could make the impression that the article isn’t captivating.
