Outline
An institutional repository is a digital archive of the intellectual product created by the faculty, research staff, and students of an institution and accessible to end users both within and outside of the institution, with few if any barriers to access.
Institutional Repository
Institutionally defined; Scholarly; Cumulative and perpetual; and Open and interoperable (Crow, 2002)
In other words, the content of an institutional repository is:
A means of increasing visibility and prestige The centralisation and storage of all types
of institutional output, including unpublished or ‘grey’ literature
Support for learning and teaching Standardisation of institutional records
To the institution, an IR offers
The aim of the present study to examine institutional repositories on women studies developed in India and Canada. The objectives are as follows:
To identify institutional repositories in Canada and in India on women’s studies
To know types and number of documents on women’s studies which is part of collection in identified repositories
To identify different areas of women’s studies covered by repositories
To know the use of standard controlled vocabulary in the generation of metadata of such documents

To identify software used in developing IR To know month and year when repositories
became available to authorised users for submission and searching.
To know that documents are submitted by users or by the library
To identify whether repository developers encourage students, researchers and teachers of women’s studies to contribute

The Cross institutional repositories such as DSpace @ INFLIBNET by INFLIBNET are not considered for the study.
Also Subject repositories will be considered for the study.
