2. INTRODUCTION ON COMPUTER COMPONENTS OF COMPUTER INPUT DEVICES PROCESSOR (CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT) OUTPUT DEVICES STORAGE OR MEMORY UNIT 3. Now-a-days computer is playing a mainrole in everyday life as it hasbecome the need of people just liketelevision, telephone or otherelectronic device at home.Technically , a computer is aprogrammable machine. This means itcan execute a programmed list ofinstructions and respond to newinstructions that are given. Todaythe term is most often used to refer 4. INPUT DEVICES PROCESSOR (CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT) OUTPUT DEVICES STORAGE OR MEMORY UNIT 5. The input is first given to the processor byinput devices . These devices which supply thefeed or information to the main machine , i.e.the CPU , for the beginning of the IPO cycle iscalled an input devices . Some input devicesare: Keyboard Mouse Scanner Digital camera Microphone Tablet Light pen Joystick3 6. After the input is received ,it goes to the processing unit. The central processing unitis called CPU , processer ormicroprocessor. It is alsoknown as brain of the computer. The CPU is the device thatreceives various types of inputand produces output. The CPUhas 3 major parts. They are:control unit(CU), Arithmeticand Logic unit(ALU), and Memoryunit(MU). 7. The various parts of the computers CPUis directed by control unit. The controlunit can be described as the manager ofthe CPU. Its sole purpose is to guideother mechanisms in the system tocomplete specific tasks. The controlunit fetches instructions from memoryand decodes them to produce signalswhich controls the other parts of thecomputer. These signals cause it totransfer data between memory and ALU toactivate peripherals to perform input oroutput. 8. Ii is one of the most important partof computers CPU . It comprise ofelectronic circuits that make itcapable of executing arithmetic andlogic operations. It has a ability toperform 4 types of functions:addition, subtraction, multiplicationand division. It can also perform 3logical operations: equal-to, less-then and greater-then.3 9. It is a part of the computer in whichinformation is stored for the centralprocessing unit. A computer consistsof two types of memory: RAM and ROM.3RAM ROMIt stands forRandom AccessMemory. It stands for ReadOnly Memory. It can be edited. It can only beviewed it cannotbe edited. 10. After the processing is done , theresult is finally displayed on theoutput device. The devices which putsthe result of the input given by theuser after the processing is done iscalled as output device. It is also adevice which communicates the result ofdata processing. Some output devicesare: Monitor Printer Speaker 3 11. Storage devices are use to holdinformation. Different storage devices are:1. Hard disc drive: the place where thefiles are permanently stored. Theoperating system is installed here.2. CD-ROM drive: these are use to storelarge amount of data.3 12. 3.Floppy drive: it is a small discstorage device which has 1.4megabytes of capacity4. DVD drives: it stores a large amountofdata, which is much more than thecapacity of CD.5. Memory stick/ pen drives: they aresmall in size but can hold a good3 13. 3
