Task 1 In this task, I will be identifying and analysing
the conventions of a soap opera poster. Firstly, it is important to understand what the purpose of a poster is. A poster is an example of print media and is created for a media text to persuade the target audience to watch the
product.
Therefore, it is important for my poster to appeal to the target audience.
Hollyoaks
The channel indentTells the audience on what channel the programme is broadcasted on. This not only promotes the show,
but also the broadcaster.
The name of the show and the time and date of broadcast
The mention of the exact time of broadcast tells the audience when
the programme is on.
Tagline ‘Rub some Hollyoaks on it’
The tagline is a persuasive piece of text that gives the audience
the idea that watching Hollyoaks will make their lives better in
some way. The word ‘rub’ may be an
innuendo, referring to the sexual themes within the soap.
The imagesThe two images are contrasting depictions of a
pub, showing the differences in
quality of the two settings. The juxtaposition
between the two images connotes the idea that the quality of life of
the audience will increase if they
watch Hollyoaks.
The characters in the this second
image are played by the actors on
the show.

Conventions SummaryFrom this task, I have discovered that the conventions of a soap opera poster is a main image that features
the characters of the soap, the channel indent, a catchy tagline that includes the name of the soap
opera and the time and date of broadcast. It appears as though these two poster examples have an image that differs from the realistic style of soap operas and instead aims to convey a message to the audience in
a more visual way.
