Costume Inspiration

The inspiration for the protagonists costume will be taken from the kinds of clothing that Ed Sheeran usually wears. Since it is his song that I am using I felt it was appropriate to try to imitate his style of clothing. Since there are three main scenes within the video I will be using three different costumes. For the performance section of the video I think I am going to take inspiration from the first picture of Ed. I want my actor Ben to be wearing a black skinny jeans, trainers, a white T-shirt and preferably a blue and black checked shirt. This casual style is a common choice for Sheeran and fits in perfectly with his laid back attitude. For the scenes post breakup I would like my actor to wear something along the lines of the second photograph of Ed. An all black outfit will have an emotional impact and create a sombre tone for the shots I am wanting to create. For the flash back scenes I am wanting him to channel either the third or the last image of Ed. Again the look I am wanting to create is a casual one, with either another checked shirt or a polo shirt. He needs to look a little bit rough in this scene like the post breakup scene as the idea is that he has come home late after a night of drinking.

More Costume Inspiration

I want the other characters in the video to be wearing very casual clothing. Elleah’s character who is the main female in the video will take costume inspiration from Ellie Goulding’s style. She tends to wear similar clothing to what would be Elleah’s normal style so it should be easier for her channel. The main thing that I want to emphasise is that her character should not be sexualised as I aim not aiming to link the female character to the theory of male gaze. The couple that will briefly feature in the video will be dressed in darker clothing (as featured on the right) their clothes aren't highly significant at all but they need to fit with the tone of the shots and darker clothing would enable them to achieve this.

Brief Plot Outline• The plot for my music video is heavily revolved around Ben’s character and

the struggles he is having dealing with his recent breakup with his girlfriend (Elleah).

• The video starts with Ben slumped in a alley way/street with the implication being that he has been there for some time and is heavily drinking. Whilst he is there a couple walk past him and he starts to think about his break up with Elleah’s character.

• As he starts to remember, the video will flash back to memories of the couple and the moments before and during the breakup. This enables the audience to understand why the couple broke up and shows the struggles and pressures that were placed on Elleah as the girlfriend having to deal with Ben’s addictive nature primarily towards alcohol.

• The flash backs will obviously upset Ben and as we flash back to present day we see how he takes this emotion and drowns his sorrows in alcohol.

Brief Plot Outline Continued• We then cut to the first performance scene of the video, this shows Ben

performing on stage and lip-syncing to the lyrics of the song. • In the next scene after the performance, we are again following Ben on his

drinking binge on the streets however this time he is on the move and bumps into a drug dealer (Kieran) who offers Ben the drugs as an alternative to alcohol to make the pain of the breakup disappear.

• Ben accepts the drugs and starts to take them. • Again, like the first scene, he sees another couple and he starts to get upset and is

reminded of the relationship. We then return to the flashbacks where this time Elleah is throwing out Ben’s alcohol and they are having an argument over it.

• The video cuts back to Ben in the street where he starts to clearly overdose on the drugs and they begin to take affect.

• There are some more shots of performance at this point to show the artists emotion.

Brief Plot Outline Continued

• There is then a final sequence of flash backs this time showing the actual moment of the breakup between the couple and ending with Ben storming out of the room.

• This is then the point in the song where the tempo changes and at this moment there will be quicker cuts made between performance shots and shots of Ben overdosing until finally we are left with Ben passed out in the street from the mixture of drugs and alcohol and the song will then end.
