The Eighth/Ninth Crusade of the Medieval Times
Maria Kemerling, Makayla DePriest, Jaelyn Haggard, & Kylie Miller
What is a crusade?A crusade is a
medieval military expedition. It was
practically a mini-war.
Why did this begin?Louis IX organized this
crusade. His purpose was to come to the aid
of remnants of the crusade states in Syria.
Who fought in the crusade?
The Mamluks and Louis fought in this crusade.
Where did it take place?
The crusade took place in states of Syria and
Tunisia.
What were the effects of the
crusade? The crusades had a big effect
on the European Middle Ages. Much of the continent was united under the power of the Papacy, but, by the fourteenth century, the
development of centralized bureaucracies was well on its
way in France, England, Burgundy, Portugal and
much more.
How did it end?Christians were allowed to
love peacefully in the region after the crusade. They thought it achieved
partial success due to that fact. For Louis’ efforts, he was later sainted and a
city in Missouri was named after him: Saint
Louis, MO.
Did another crusade follow this? What
and why?There was not another
crusade after this crusade. Although, this crusade started after
the seventh about sixteen years later.
