3. The settlement of Cserkeszl exists since the 1st of January
1952 as an independent village. The name Cserke means discovering
commander. In 1938 the Hungarian-American Oil company found thermal
water of 93 C, springing up from the depth of 2000 metres. During
WW2 the fountain had been closed and was reopened in 1948. The
building of thermal spa began in 1955. This year we celebrate the
60th anniversary of the spa. The plantation of grape on the sandy
ground plays an important role in the development of Cserkeszl.
