Overall… 7,000 ships supported the landing in Normandy. 4,000 landing craft brought the men ashore. 131,000 men waded onto the beaches. 25,000 paratroopers were dropped from the skies. 15,766 aircraft were involved in the invasion. 127 aircraft were lost. 24 warships were sunk.There were 12,000 casualties. However, the German Army failed to drive allied forces into the sea. Inch by inch, mile by mile they battled to liberate German-occupied Europe from the Nazi oppression. Ultimately D-day was one of the crucial components that led to the German Surrender on the 8th of May 1945. It was a day that changed the world.
