DESCRIPTION
Using Moodle as a platform the presenters created a dynamic and easily accessible site (Daruma英語) for eight English classes with a total of 160 students. Daruma英語 was used as a way to foster autonomous learning among low and multi-level English learners, where students could control their own assessment and track their individual learning progress. Two main activities in Moodle were used, Moodle quizzes and Kyoto Sangyo Universities Moodle Reader Module for extensive reading. Students completed teacher created Moodle quizzes that pertained to in class English, outside of class. In tandem, students read graded readers and passes quizzes in the Moodle Reader Module, outside of class. The presenters will demonstrate how the blending of a physical classroom with an online, supporting Moodle was a success. Data will show increased English online study time and students studying at their own level and pace. Increased student use of the Moodle outside of class, anonymous before and after surveys, and the presenters own experiences using Moodle will be presented as evidence collected from the 6th month, 2nd semester trial using Daruma英語. The audience will be given guest access for the duration of the MoodleMoot also.

•Using Tom Robb’s MoodleReader Module from Kyoto Sangyo College. •Currently 50 schools are using www.moodlereader.org site with 24 individual teacher courses. •776 book quiz data base – our server. •Extensive Reading was started in Oct. 2011.•3rd Year: Minimum of 10 books by Jan. 31st. •4th Year: 2 books per week.

•67 3rd year students have read and passed 683 book quizzes.
