INDEFINITE ARTICLE

• A or an called indefinite article because we use a or an when we do not mean a particular thing

• Ex: 1)He brought me a pen • 2) I prefer an apple to an orange

DEFINITE ARTICLE

• The is called the definite article because we use the when we speak of a particular person or thing

• Ex:1) I gave him the book, he wanted.• 2) He is the boy whom I have seen just now at the school.

RULES FOR ARTICLES(A IS USED)• A is used before a word beginning with a consonant having a consonant

sound • Ex: A house, A candidate, A dog, A man, A lawyer, A teacher• Before a word beginning with a vowel having a consonant • Ex: A university, A European, A uniform, A one eyed man, A one rupee

note• We use a/an when we define or describe people or things • Ex:1) He is a doctor
