Digital Library

A digital library is a library in which collection are stored in digital formats and accessible by the computers. The computer contents may be stored in locally. Digital library is a type of information retrieval system. The first use of digital library is 1988.

Characteristics of DLs

1. A digital library is a collection of texts, images, or data that has been digitized.

2. It should have a way to navigate and retrieve information.

3. It should have at least one specified audience

Advantages of DLs

• No physical boundary• Multiple access• Information retrieval• Added value• Easily accessible

Disadvantages of DLs

• Library management system have a very large library that will be difficult to update.

• If software is corrupted, whole data is damaged.
