A PPT ON MULTI-
PURPOSE PROJECTS
What is a multi purpose project
A multipurpose project is a large scale hydro project often including dams for water retention , canals for irrigation, water processing and pipe lines to supply water to cites and power generation. These often include transportation improvements and industrial growth. They are also developed to reduce the dangers of flooding.

DISADVANTAGES OF MULTI-PURPOSE
PROJECTS
The project will inundate thousands of acres of forests and agricultural land, a devastating blow to human lives and biodiversity.
The sheer size of the project, the Sardar Sarovar dam could bring about some of the worst environmental destruction in India.
If completed, several hundred square miles of forest would disappear, destroying precious habitat for tigers, panthers, sloth bear, barking deer, several rare tree species, and hundred of plants with medicinal potential.
It may damage or destroy river based fisheries.
These projects also generally displace hundreds of not millions of people from very fertile land thus reducing the productivity of these people.
They take away their livelihood and their homes of many generations.
Taum Sauk Hydroelectric Power Station
• Natural flow of rivers is affected causing poor flow of sediments
• Excessive sedimentation of the reservoir
• Reservoirs submerge existing vegetation and soil leading to its decomposition
Evaporation,Green House Gas emission
Displacement of local tribes
Destruction of historical and archaeological sites
Loss of natural biodiversity
Loss of Livelihood
