PHOTOGRAPHER: LOUIS ANGUS
W hen Abbie Plater
rose to fame as the
lead singer in R&B
girl-group, Groovy Girls in 2003,
the whole world were ‘Crazy in
Love’ with them. Selling millions
of records along with winning 4
Grammy Awards and 2 Ameri-
can Music Awards gave the
group worldwide recognition and
a huge following of dedicated
fans. In 2009 the group split
during heated media coverage
surrounding them and the girls
wanted to move away from the
music scene—until now!
In May 2013, Abbie announced
The Mrs. Plater world tour which
sold out in just 8 minutes! With
fans desperate to see their idol in
concert again, some paid over
triple the original price for tick-
ets.
The Mrs. Plater Tour sold out 54
shows worldwide and in some of
the biggest arenas including the
O2 Arena in London, the Staples
Centre in Los Angeles and even
the Philippine Arena which holds
an amazing 55,000 screaming
fans!
Life on the road has its ups and
downs, which Abbie is sharing
with all of us after her 4 year
break from music.
What made you return to
making music?
I wanted to concentrate on my-
self for a while after the girls split,
I focused on my family and just
wanted to live. Recently I had
been talking to my team and
decided that there was no better
time than now to go back on tour
for my committed fans.
How was life on the road
after all the years?
Being on tour has its good and
bad moments, but I couldn't have
asked for a better group of
people to share this amazing
experience with. My all female
band have been great and
showed so much continuous
support, I just feel so blessed
right now.
