DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD ANALYSIS

Q Magazine – Battle Cry.

This double page

spread is from the Q

magazine

TITLE

I like this masthead because it continues the prominent colour of red that is always shown on each Q magazine. In addition the connotations of the colour red are strong and powerful which relates to the 4 women who look confident. In addition, the colour red also connects with the world “Battle” that can represent blood and gore. However, the colour can also connote love and desire, which could be associated with the word ‘cry’.

The red colour scheme is also featured in the shirt that one of the models is wearing. This follows the house style and the convention for the magazine.

LANGUAGE, REGISTER AND FORM

Language: In this introduction, words such as ‘death’ and ‘spook-pop’ are used which suggest that the band

are powerful and dark. In addition, the dark background around the text also connotes this idea. The phrase ‘Warpaint’ are more rock’n’roll than their

‘airy fairy’ reputation suggests’ implies that this article is going to explain why and how they are so

rock’n’roll; this suggests the topic to the reader which can entice them and make them want to read on.

Register: This uses casual register. This is informal language which contains slang and colloquialisms. This is

‘group’ language which represents the relationship between the writer and the reader. This conversational tone adds an

informal aspect and therefore ‘friendliness’ towards the reader.

IMAGES There is only one image used on this DPS. I like this idea because it allows the reader to focus more on the writing than on each separate image.

The image also follows the house style with the colour scheme which is an idea that I will also use when planning my photo shoot for my Indie Music Magazine.

The image breaks convention because the models are not looking in to the camera. In addition, they are all doing different things/poses because it is an action shot.
