We have listed reasons as to why people should care for the

environment – but what about Christians?

Christians would agree with the reasons we have already listed but unlike non-religious people they believe there are further

reasons to care for the environment and help with

environmental issues.

Some Christians may join organisations that work to help

the environment.

Looking after something so it can be passed on to the

next generation.

STEWARDSHIP:Humans are looking after the earth for God – they are

temporary keepers and so must ensure they return it in the condition God would want.

AUTHORITY/DOMINION:Humans are in charge of the natural world. Some see this as meaning they can therefore do as they want

with the world as it belongs to them.

RESPONSIBILITY:God has given human beings the gift of the world and they have a duty to ensure it is passed on to

future generations.

CREATION:God created the world and everything in it – humans

must therefore show respect and protect God’s creation.

The Book of Genesis:So God created Human beings, making them to be like himself. He created the male and

female, blessed them, and said, “have many children, so that your descendants will live all over the earth and bring it under their control. I am putting you in charge of the fish, the birds, and all the wild animals. I

have provided all kinds of grain and all kinds of fruit for you to eat; but for all the wild

animals and birds I have provided grass and leafy plants for food” – and it was done…

The Book of Genesis is a record of God giving

humans the responsibility to care for the Earth and

the environment.
