EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Bahrain has one of the highest literacy rates (93%) among the GCC
countries — with an enrollment ratio of approximately 103% for K–12
education, and approximately 26% for higher education. The kingdom
caters to approximately 19% of its population across various levels of
education, and spends approximately 11% of its total fiscal budget on
education.
Approximately 80% of Bahrain’s education sector is dominated by the
general K–12 education, followed by preschool education and higher
education. The sector has highly benefitted from free and compulsory
basic education at public schools. However many students are now opting
for private schools — which teach as per international curricula.
The kingdom is also witnessing an increase in the number of non–Bahraini
population, which at present is more than the native Bahraini population.
It has further accentuated the demand for high–quality education of
international standards.

Bahrain’s education sector is expected to grow at a compound annual
growth rate (CAGR) of approximately 2.5%, till 2018. The growth will be
driven by various factors, such as increased government and private
spending on education, growth in population and employment, and
growing demand from expatriates.
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY
This report has been prepared through the following comprehensive
methodology:
The market definitions used in the reports are the standard definitions
recognized by the industry. In this report, the market size of the education
sector is defined as the sum total of core expenditure of teaching students.
It includes the fees paid by students in private schools and higher
education institutions, as well as the government expenditure per student
in case of public schools and higher education institutions.
Bases of all the figures are taken from the statistics provided by the
government, ministries, as well as prominent organizations such as the
World Bank, International Monetary Funds, UNESCO Institute of Statistics,
World Factbook — CIA etc. The data is further validated through credible
analyst reports, white papers by industry organizations, questioners and
expert interviews.
