Primary education is imparted basically by primary level institutions.
Secondary education is imparted by junior secondary and higher secondary level institutions.
Higher education is imparted by degree pass (3 years), degree honors (4 years), masters (1 & 2 years) and other higher level institutions of equivalent section of other related institutions.

Bangladesh has one of the largest primary education systems in the world with an estimated 22 million primary school aged children (6 to10 years) and 320,000 teachers in more than 78,000 schools.The Primary Education Compulsory Act passed in 1990 made primary education free and compulsory for all children up to Grade 5.

UNICEF, with the Government of Bangladesh, has been taking Innovative measures during the past decade to achieve education for ALL Bangladeshi children. Intensive District Approach to Education for All (IDEAL) Project (1996-2004)

In the First Primary Education Development Programme(PEDP-I) led by the Government of Bangladesh, UNICEF supported the IDEAL project covering 38 districts(out of 64). The project's main goal was to improve the quality of primary education.

The Second Primary Education Development Programme (PEDP-II) (2004-2009) . The Second Primary Education Development Programme (PEDP-II) was launched in September 2004 by the Government of Bangladesh. PEDP-II aims to ensure the quality of primary education for ALL children in the country .

Upgraded education system in primary Level is PSC & srijonshil. . Now PSC is the first public examination for Primary Level Student .
Post-primary education in the general stream is imparted by junior secondary schools (grade 6-8), secondary schools (grade 6-10) and higher secondary schools known as Intermediate colleges (grade 11-12). Post primary level madrasas are known as Dakhil madrasa (grades 6-10), and Alimmadrasas (grades11-12).

(1) Government secondary schools and (2)Non-government secondary schools (including Dakhil madrasas). Nearly 98% of the post primary (secondary and higher secondary) institutions are owned and managed by the private sector .

Secondary education institutions is also in technical and vocational streams include Polytechnics, Vocational Training Institutes (VTI), Commercial Institutes, Technical Training Centers, Textile Vocational Centers, Agriculture Training Institutes and others. Upgraded education system in Secondary Level (JSC & srijonshil).
Madrasah Education
“ Alia Madrasah Education Board" started its activity independently in 1979. Humanities and Science faculty were included in Alim level and in 1980. . In 1985 dakhil level was given the standard of education of SSC and in 1987 Alim(equivalent to HSC) level was given the standard of education of HSC. It also gives the Facilities of higher education Like Fazil Kamil.

Public University: Bangladesh has 36 public universities providing education to the bulk of higher studies students. These universities are funded by the government while managed as self-governed organizations. Among Them Engineering , Agricultural , Science & Technology University

Private University: Establishment of private university in Bangladesh initiated after the institution of the Private University Act 1992. There are 79 such universities that are operational in five out of seven division of the country.
