Presented by Lisa Colton, Founder & President Darim [email protected]://slidesha.re/natejea6
Goals
• Understand how your perspective is valuable beyond your job description;
• Why using your knowledge helps your org, and the Jewish people;
• How to influence your organization in a positive way;
• How to begin the conversations, have a shared language;
• Use your peers for support!
Ultimate Goal
Help your organization evolve for success in the digital age -- for its own
sake, for the sake of your school and for the sake of the people you reach and impact!
The Accidental Techie
“In the field of nonprofit technology, an accidental techie is an individual who has gravitated toward responsibility for an organization's information technology infrastructure, even though his or her professional training or job description did not include tasks of this kind.”
-Webster’s Online Dictionary
Barriers to Evolution
Learning curve is too steep– You are in the business of learning!
Perceived risk is greater than potential reward– You’re always trying new things!
Don’t see how “rules of the game” are changing– Evidence of “new rules” are in front of you daily!
Don’t extrapolate beyond the technology itself– You know technology isn’t the magic bullet!
Need for everyone to be on the same page– You know how to steer a group!
Learning Curve
Those who may be skeptical or resisting
You!
Save time & energy, better outcome, convenience!
Feel confident! Have fun!
Rethinking Risk
Used to be change was riskier than the status quo
Today, not changing may be more risky.
New Rules of the Game
• Attention Economy• Add Value• Authenticity + Transparency = Trust• Understand, support and use networks.
Connect people to one another.• Be a platform for your mission, not the
source of it• Be nimble and adapt: change is the name of
the game• “Do what you do best, and network the rest.”
