Magazine name: ICON
Lead article headline: The Age Of Ivy
Double page spread headline: Poisoning Ivy Quinn
Introduction:
With her princess Belle hair and her well known dress style, there is nothing Disney about this house
DJ. From Red rocks amphitheatre to Glastonbury main stage and everything in between, Ivy Quinn
(real name Shauna Quinn) has been raising roofs at every venue she DJ’s. Born in the heart of
London, and raised in Manchester, this is where Ivy found her love of mixing music in college, which
birthed the start of her career. Her current #2 in the UK top charts, ‘shotgun love’ has already
received over 200 thousand views on YouTube and has been Vevo certified. Her newest single,
‘apocalypse’ is available to download in summer and comes off the up and coming album, ’41:30’
which is set to be released August 21st. ICON met up with Ivy in a vintage low key coffee shop in
Chelsea, London to discuss her future music and the rumours about her alleged romance with high
school musicals’ Troy Bolton.
ICON: the name Ivy Quinn has become quite a household name, how did you come up with this
stage name?
Ivy: well when I was in college, I was tired quite a bit from all the early starts so everyone use to say
that my morning face was quite ‘poisonous’, a bit of a death stare, so I was nicknamed Ivy because
of poison ivy, and the Quinn part is my last name.
ICON: so, college has influenced your stage name and music quite a lot?
Ivy: yeah, it was where I first got introduced to all the different styles of music and the various ways
it can be created. College is a great place for influence because everything’s so raw and so new that
you can adjust in your own way to fit in.
ICON: You’ve done a lot of collaborations, Nicki Minaj, Drake, The 1975, quite a few Hollywood
names, is there anymore collabs you could tell us about?
Ivy: well I couldn’t tell you names specifically, but I have been in the studio quite a lot recently
writing and recording a few songs with some artists in mind, but there are a few songs won’t go out
of style.
ICON: speaking of Hollywood names, there is a rumoured romance between you and Zac Efron,
can we hope for this to be true?
Ivy: Hahahah, we’ve been friends for a while, we actually met at one of Rihanna’s party’s last year,
where I was DJ’ing and I remember we had a 2 hour long conversation about High School Musical
and how we would work together in remixing some of those songs.
ICON: so is there a romance in the works?
Ivy: hahaa, I wouldn’t say there is. Our relationship is sort of like a brother/sister one, we go to each
other for advice, hang out together but no romance, we’re just too good of friends to go that far.
ICON: what do your family think of your success?
Ivy: my mum likes my work, as long as its not too crazy with fast rapping and heavy beats, my
brother likes it only when I work with his favourite artists because he gets to meet them and my
sister likes it because I can make music that appeals to her, I think overall my family are proud of me
because when I go away working, it gets me out of the house so they have more room ahaha.
ICON: what’s next on the list for Ivy Quinn?
Ivy: well ive got my album coming out in a couple of months, that still needs work on, ive got a
couple of photoshoots for the album and my website and me and my team are currently planning a
world tour with a couple of my well known friends.
ICON: so, Ivy Quinn, who’s your icon?
Ivy: ooohh, well id say my family are iconic to me because they’ve always been honest about my
decisions, but my musical icons are quite old school, I like Otis Redding, Sam Cooke, the R&B, soul
icons. My icons are quite difference from my personal music style but I like to mix the two, then it
appeals to everyone.
Last week, I attended one of Ivy Quinn’s DJ sets at Ritz, Manchester, to see what all the fuss was
about. Ivy played her most popular songs from her first EP, ‘when the world ends’ such as, ‘the beat
never stops’, ‘in my arms’ and ‘until you go’. The atmosphere was electric; the floor was flooded
with people of all ages bouncing in time to the beat. The bass of the beat from the speakers shook
everyone’s drink causing everyone to down them and throw the empty cups into the air as a sign of
enjoyment. Ivy’s more than a Dj, she’s an entertainer as she encouraged the crowd to sing along as
her special guests, such as Jess Glynne joined her onstage. There were a few familiar faces in the
crowd, from fellow DJ’s to actors to her own family. Everywhere Ivy plays, she is taken in with open
arms by her admirers.
Ivy’s album is set for release August 21st and the tour is still to be confirmed. To keep up to date with
Ivy’s life, follow her on Instagram, twitter and tumblr @Ivyquinn.
