ACID RAINRain that contains dilute acid derived from burning fossil fuels and that is potentially harmful to the environment.

ATMOSPHERE The mixture of gases that surrounds an astronomical object such as the earth.

CARBON DIOXIDE A heavy colorless odorless atmospheric gas. Source= respiration, combustion. Use= during photosynthesis, in refrigeration, carbonated drinks, fire extinguishers. Formula= CO2.

RAIN FOREST A thick evergreen tropical forest found in areas of heavy rainfall and containing trees with brood leaves that form a continuous canopy.

REFRIGERANT A substance used to cool or freeze something, specially the liquid that circulates in a refrigerator.

SMOGAdjective, a mixture of fog and smoke or other air borne pollutants such as exhaust fumes.

TOXIC WASTE The emission to the environment of these substances pose a serious risk to life. Every newborn now has in its body contaminants in the environment by human activity.

WASTE Useless or discarded material such as garbage or sewage.
