History of Cendol• In Southeast Asia, cendol became a quintessential part of cuisine.

• Often sold at roadsides, hawker centres and food courts.

• Cendol can be found almost anywhere in Indonesia, especially Jakarta, Bandung, and Yogyakarta.

• Originally, cendol or dawet in Java was served without ice, but after the introduction of refrigeration technology, the cold cendol became widely popular.

• It is most likely that each country developed its own recipe of cendol. Which explains why it is most popular in Malayan port cities where British refrigerated ships’ technology would provide required ice.

• Malaysian Department of National Heritage declared cendol a Malaysian Heritage.
