Why Brexit could be GOOD for the UK Digital Economy?
- Ability to adapt regulation faster to digital markets within UK- Could adopt US style copyright with ‘fair use’ which is more flexible- Could probably sort ‘safe harbour’ on data with US more quickly- Escape from dubious EU legislation like ‘ancillary rights’ and poor ECJ judgements- Focus on English speaking markets makes us feel at home???
Tony Clayton - Imperial College London Why Brexit could be BAD for the UK Digital Economy?
- Disrupting links with what are currently UK’s major trading partners- Risks to inward investment in UK which depends on access to the rest of Europe- Europe stops speaking English and starts speaking German- Digital Single Market in rest of EU develops without UK and lead passes to Germany / France- UK’s ‘like minded friends’ give up on us- Starts a cycle of protectionism- Still have to follow EU rules - e.g. on copyright and data - if we want to trade
Steve Kunkewicz - BermansWhy Brexit could be GOOD for the UK Digital Economy?

Will intermediaries & platforms be (further) scared away? Is geoblocking such a big deal? Is this in the interests of all businesses?
Steve Kunkewicz - BermansWhy Brexit could be BAD for the UK Digital Economy?
