Photoshop

Photoshop• I used Photoshop to produce my music magazine

front cover. While producing my music magazine front cover I developed a range of skills and techniques and learned to be more confident when editing and producing my work.

• I also used Photoshop to edit any pictures I took with the Digital SLR Cameras to make the pictures look more attractive and professional.

• Without the use of Photoshop on my production work I wouldn’t of been able to produce professional looking work and produce images, text etc. to represent the rock genre.

I used the crop tool while producing my magazine front cover. I used the crop tool to reduce the size of images, text and shapes. The crop tool was mainly used when I cropped my image before editing it in Photoshop to reduce the size to fit my front cover.

I used this tool in Photoshop to move any items or text around anywhere on my front cover I desired and where I thought it would suit best and fit in with the conventions of a music magazine front cover and the design of my rough sketch I produced of my front cover and uploaded to my blog.

I used the pen tool to go around my picture that I used for my double page spread to cut around and then I deleted the background and created a new background behind it and then imported it to Quark on my double page spread.

I used the eyedropper tool to make sure my house style text and any objects I had used were the same colour as the rest so it all matched the house style. The house style consisted of the colour scheme red, black and white.

I used the background eraser tool to erase bits of my cover stars hair. My cover stars hair covered over the masthead, which is a common convention on a magazine front cover. I used the background eraser to make it look more realistic and clear over the masthead.

The horizontal type tool was used a lot while producing my front cover in Photoshop. Whatever text that I wanted to put on my front cover I used this tool to do so. It helped me to change the font, colour and size of my text wherever I choose to place it. I also used it when I wrote the subheading under my main cover line and I choose to turn it around on a slant to make it appear more interesting to the audience.

I used the rectangle tool to create any shapes I wanted to put on my front cover. I used the rectangle tool to produce a skyline and banner and I coloured both black. This was followed by a white background created from the rectangle tool under my masthead. I used the rectangle tool to also create a other background for the price and date and outlining other shapes to make them stand out more clearer and look more neater and interesting to look at.

Quark

Quark• I used Quark to produce my content page and

double page spread. While producing these I developed a range of skills and the more I used Quark the more familiar and easier I found it when I used it.

• I had not yet used Quark before, so at first I found it hard but in time I learned how to make my production work better and listened to others to help me become more confident when using Quark.

I used the item tool in Quark to move any shapes or text around my double page spread and content page. This was one of the tools that I used the most considering this was the tool that was used to move any text or different shaped items onto my production work and helped me position them neatly.

I used the Text Content Tool in Quark to write text wherever I wanted to on my double page spread or contents page. I could write the text in any position I wanted and I could change the text colour, font or size whichever I desired and that would fit with the house style of my double page spread and content page.

I used the picture content tool to draw a box whatever size I wanted my picture to be and imported pictures that I took using the SLR cameras that I had transferred to the computer. Once the picture I wanted was imported into the box I could then freely move it around so I could have as much of the picture showing as I desired.

I used the rectangle box tool on my double page spread and content page to create shapes to outline or use as a background for text. I changed the colour of my shapes to colours such as red, black or white as this was my chosen colour scheme for my music magazine and represented the rock genre most.

I used the table tool on my double page spread and content page. I used the table tool on my content page to create columns to have an organised structure like most magazines do. I used the columns to position my text and pictures neatly. I used the table tool to use columns also on my double page spread to organise my interview.

Digital SLR Cameras

• I used the SLR cameras to take any pictures for all three designs. This included my front cover, content page and double page spread. After I had took the pictures I uploaded them to the computer and edited each one in different ways on Photoshop to appear more attractive and professional on my work.

• I also learnt how to do different shots and experiment with different camera angles to make my pictures become more expectable and interesting to use on my production work.
